My goals as an artist would pretty much be my goals as a DJ. The first and most obvious goal I have as a DJ would be to learn how to beatmatch vinyl without a BPM counter or any assistance. I have mainly been DJing with CDJs and on a computer for most of my time, and both of these have BPM read outs. Even the turntables I have have a BPM counter on them, although they are rarely accurate. Beatmatching is pretty must the foundation of DJing, and I have never really been able to do it the way it is supposed to be done. I guess another musical equivalent would be that I can play a song on guitar, but I can't read music. To the audience it sounds the same, but your missing a vital part of being a musician. Another thing I would like to do as a DJ is learn to scratch. I've been listening to turntablism for a while now, and have always been fascinated by this art, and its really the only way to physically manipulate the records to actually call yourself a real musician. It is also probably the sexiest thing in DJing, and the hardest, but when you tell other people who might not understand it as well as you do, they think that by being a DJ you are automatically a turntablist, which is usually not the case. Most of these things require real vinyl and DJing on actual vinyl turntables, which is what I would like to do in the future: become an authentic vinyl DJ, without a lot of the modern assistance I have now.
